♂Jean Juillet
Dates not yet known.
Jean Juillet was a master craftsman at Avignon, then a possession of the Papal StatesW, and the father of Blaise Juillet, who settled at Montréal in New France. He was the eleventh great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his son Blaise Juillet (1611–1660).
The Fichier Origine, a register-verified compilation of immigrants’ origins, records that Jean Juillet, a butcher, married Gabrielle Barbarine on 18 June 1609 in the parish of Saint-Symphorien at Avignon, where the groom was written “Jean Jullet”. The Latin entry for the baptism of their son Blaise, on 26 February 1611 according to the Fichier Origine, names him as the son of “magistri Joannis Julier et Gabrielle Barbarine coniugum”, that is, of master Jean Julier and Gabrielle Barbarine, a married couple; “magister” was a title given to a master craftsman. The Fichier Origine lists five more children baptised at Saint-Agricol in Avignon: René and Claude on the same day, 16 November 1615, Nicolas in 1622, Marguerite in 1625 and Joseph-Philippe in 1629. Tanguay’s dictionary also names Blaise as the son of Jean Juillet and Gabrielle Barbarini, of Saint-Agricole in the diocese of Avignon. Blaise went to New France in 1644, according to the Fichier Origine, and died at Montréal in 1660.
