♂John Symonds

John Symonds (died by September 1671) was a joiner of Salem, Massachusetts. He was the ninth great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his daughter Katherine Symonds.

Life

His will, made on 16 August 1671, leaves his house, orchard and land to his wife Elizabeth for her life and then to his son James, together with the tools “belonging to my trade” and the service of an indentured servant, John Pease. The rest of his estate went equally to his son Samuel and “my daughter, Kathren Town”, the wife of Jacob Towne of Topsfield, and £20 to the children of his dead daughter Ruth Swinnerton. He named James and Samuel as his executors, and asked Major Hathorne and Mr. Bartholomew, whom he called his esteemed friends, to see the will carried out and in particular to take care of his wife, “whoe is in an ill condition”. The will was proved at Salem in September 1671; his house and land were valued at £230, and his inventory included joiner’s tools, benches and two bedsteads almost finished.

It is not known whether Elizabeth, his wife in 1671, was the mother of his children.
