Rene Malet (1668 – before 1721) was a habitant of Montréal, the son of the Breton settler Pierre Maillet. He was the eighth great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his son Francois Mallet (born about 1702).
Life
He was baptised at Notre-Dame de Montréal on 24 February 1668, the son of Pierre Maillet and Marie-Anne Hardy. On 17 October 1689 he married Marie Lécuyer, daughter of Pierre Lescuyer and Marie Juillet. The marriage register writes his mother’s name as “Tardy”, a slip that long hid the fact that his line and his brother Pierre’s both lead to the same family at Vincennes a century later.
René and Marie had a large family, with children baptised at Montréal from 1691 to 1707, among them Jean Baptiste, Jacques, Louis, Gabriel, Pierre, Jean François, Martin, Anne and Jean Marie, and daughters who married in 1712 and 1716. His son Jean Baptiste married at Detroit in 1741, and his son François’s daughter Marie Anne married there in 1755. René died before 17 February 1721, when his widow married Jean Baptiste Renault of Québec.
