♀Anne St-Amand

Anne St-Amand is known from a single record: the marriage of her son René in New France. She was the ninth great-grandmother of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through her son René Prévost (born about 1652). An index of the marriage register of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade records that on 9 January 1684 René, aged 32 and single, married there, and names his parents as Nicolas Provost and Anne St-Amand, written Stamand in the index. The same entry gives René’s origin as the parish of St-Laurent, in the archdiocese of Paris; the register page itself has not been read, and the index writes the family name as Provost for both father and son. Nothing more is known of Anne St-Amand. Tanguay’s dictionary of French-Canadian families lists René Prévost and his wife without naming his parents, and the Fichier Origine, a register of emigrants from France to Québec, has no entry for René.
