♂Nicolas Provost

Nicolas Provost is known from a single record: the marriage of his son René in New France. He was the ninth great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his son René Prévost (born about 1652). An index of the marriage register of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade records that on 9 January 1684 René, aged 32 and single, married there, and names his parents as Nicolas Provost and Anne St-Amand, written Stamand in the index. The same entry gives René’s origin as the parish of St-Laurent, in the archdiocese of Paris; the register page itself has not been read, and the index writes the family name as Provost for both father and son. Nothing more is known of Nicolas Provost. Tanguay’s dictionary of French-Canadian families lists René Prévost and his wife without naming his parents, and the Fichier Origine, a register of emigrants from France to Québec, has no entry for René.
