♂Hector Camus

Hector Camus was the father of Catherine Camus, a woman from Blois, in France, who married at Québec in 1656. He was the tenth great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his daughter Catherine Camus.

When Catherine married Charles Gautier at Québec, in the parish of Notre-Dame, on 1 August 1656, the register named her as the daughter of Hector Camus and Jacquette Mondy and gave her origin as the parish of Sainte-Solenne at Blois. The governor of the colony, Jean de Lauson^W, was one of the witnesses. The index of the register does not call either of her parents deceased, and no record read places either of them in New France.

The Fichier Origine, a register-verified compilation of immigrants’ origins, describes Hector Camus as a master mason and tiler at Blois, in the parish of Sainte-Solenne. It writes his wife’s name as Jacqueline Mondy, and Tanguay’s genealogical dictionary also has Jacqueline; the Québec marriage register, as indexed, has Jacquette, the name used here. The same compilation gives Catherine’s baptism at Blois on 23 November 1633 (the register entry itself, which survives, can be read only as 22 or 23 November) and names an elder daughter, Claude Camus, baptised there on 11 October 1623, who married Claude Charron at Blois on 11 October 1649 and also went to New France with her husband. A Claude Camus and a Claude Charron stood as godparents at the baptism of Catherine’s daughter Marie at Québec on 2 May 1660, most likely this sister and her husband.
