♂Jean Roy

Jean Roy was a man of the parish of the Saints-Anges at Lachine, near Montréal in New France, whose son Jean married Marie Anne Bouchard at Montréal in 1690. He was the ninth great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his son Jean Roy.

His wife was Françoise Bouet. When their son Jean married Marie Anne Bouchard at Notre-Dame de Montréal on 6 February 1690, the Drouin Institute’s index of the register named the groom’s parents as Jean Roy and Françoise Bouet, both of the Saints-Anges at Lachine; the act itself has not been read. Tanguay’s genealogical dictionary gives more: it has Jean Roy born about 1633 and Françoise Bouet, whom it spells Bouer, born about 1630, dates their marriage to 1659, and lists their children born from 1660 to 1675, the eldest baptised at Montréal. Tanguay also gives Jean Roy’s burial at Lachine on 1 November 1676, and says that Françoise, as his widow, married Alexis Buet at Lachine, in 1677 in one entry and in 1678 in another. A family chart compiled in 1994 gives the same years of birth and a burial at Lachine in November 1676. The 1690 index entry calls the bride’s father deceased but does not say the same of Jean Roy, so the index and the dictionary do not agree on whether he was living in 1690.
