♂Jean Roy

Jean Roy (fl. 1690–1713) was a Montréal man, in New France, who lived in the parish of Saints-Anges at Lachine when he married in 1690, and whose daughter Marie married François Mallet at Montréal in 1728. He was the eighth great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his daughter Marie Roy (born about 1707).

He was the son of Jean Roy and Françoise Bouet, both of the Saints-Anges parish at Lachine, as the register of his marriage names them. That marriage took place at Notre-Dame de Montréal on 6 February 1690, when he was single. His bride was Marie Anne Bouchard, daughter of a surgeon who had died by then and of Marguerite Boisel. The marriage was celebrated with a dispensation of two of the three banns^W that were normally read beforehand. The index of the register does not say why the priest granted it.

The couple’s children were baptised at Notre-Dame de Montréal from 1691 onward. One was baptised on 2 January 1707; the index does not name the child, but a family chart compiled in 1994 gives that day as the baptism of their daughter Marie. When Marie married François Mallet at Notre-Dame de Montréal on 8 November 1728, the register named her parents as Jean Roy and Marie Anne Bouchar. Only the index of the marriage and of the baptisms has been read, not the registers themselves.

The same 1994 chart gives Jean Roy a baptism at Montréal on 8 February 1661 and a burial there on 4 April 1741. Neither date has been checked against the registers.
