♀Marie Madeleine Landry

Marie Madeleine Landry (born about 1723) was an Acadian settler who, after the expulsion from Nova Scotia, was living with her family on the Acadian Coast of the Mississippi by 1769. She was the sixth great-grandmother of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through her daughter Esther Leblanc (born about 1744).

A genealogical guide quoted online, citing the Acadian dictionary compiled by Stephen A. White, names her parents as Abraham Landry and Marie Guilbeau and places her marriage to Desire LeBlanc at about 1740; none of this rests on a record that has been checked directly. By 1769 the couple, with seven children, appear together in a census of the Acadian Coast: Desire, aged 52, and Marie Landry, aged 46, with sons Desire, Benjamin, and Enselme, an infant son Gregoire aged five months, and daughters Izabelle, Marine, and Ozitte. Six years later, in 1775, two of her daughters married at Ascension parish, each record naming both parents as “Desire & Marie Magdalene Landry.” Her husband was buried at Ascension on 5 March 1777, recorded there as a married man. The parish’s marriage record for a son, Benjamin, in 1790 likewise names his parents as “Desire & Maria Landry.”

The Ascension parish register also shows a woman named Marie Landry standing as godmother in 1775, alongside Anselme Blanchard, the husband of her daughter Esther, at the baptism of a daughter of Paul Braud and Marie Marthe LeBlanc; whether this godmother was Marie Madeleine herself is not established by the record. No death date has been found for her.
