Mary was the wife of Noah Thayer of Braintree, Massachusetts, and the mother of Mary Thayer, born there on 2 January 1770. She was the fifth great-grandmother of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006) by two separate lines of descent, both through her daughter Mary Thayer (1770–1827).

Her maiden name has not been established. The Braintree register of births names her only as “Mary his wife” of Noah Thayer. An online family tree calls her Mary Lyon, born in Boston in 1749, and on 30 September 1770 the church in neighbouring Weymouth baptised a “Mary, grand d. Mr. Lions”, a granddaughter of a man named Lyon, which would fit her daughter born that January; neither has been confirmed.

Her daughter Mary married Nicholas Blanchard at Weymouth in 1789 and moved with him to Maine, and two of that daughter’s grandchildren, first cousins, later married each other, so that their son Wesley Blanchard (1844–1908) descended from her through both parents.
