♂Noah Thayer

Noah Thayer was a man of Braintree, Massachusetts, whose daughter Mary was born there on 2 January 1770. He was the fifth great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006) by two separate lines of descent, both through his daughter Mary Thayer (1770–1827).

He is known from a single record: the Braintree register of births enters “Mary Thayer, the Daughter of Noah Thayer & Mary his wife born January 2d. 1770”. Braintree had several men of that name in the same years, among them a Noah Thayer 2d who married Eunice Allen of Wrentham, a Noah Thayer Jr. who married Dorothy Hunt, and a Noah whose wife was named Margaret, so which of them was Mary’s father has not been settled. An online family tree identifies him as the Noah Thayer born on 11 July 1745, a son of Hezekiah Thayer and his wife Christian, but that has not been checked against the records. The town register also records the death of a Noah Thayer “with a Consumption” on 3 December 1790, and it is not known which Noah that was.

His daughter Mary married Nicholas Blanchard at Weymouth in 1789 and moved with him to Maine. Two of her grandchildren, first cousins, later married each other, so that their son Wesley Blanchard (1844–1908) descended from Noah Thayer through both parents.
