♂Numidia Edouard Leray

Numidia Edouard Leray (born about 1848 – 1893) lived at Brusly, West Baton Rouge Parish. He bore the ancient name of Numidia, the Roman-era kingdom of North Africa - a classical name of the kind French Louisiana families sometimes gave a child - and in the records it set him apart from his father, who was also named Edouard Leray. He was a nephew of Firmin Serrette (1818–), the great-grandfather of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through his mother Aurore Serrette (1829–1901), Firmin’s sister.

He was a son of Edouard Leray and Aurore Serrette, who had married at Brusly in 1847; no baptism record for him has been found. On 27 June 1868, at Brusly, he married Marie Ernestine Courtade (1850–1906), daughter of Jean Courtade and Ernestine Hebert. By 1870 he headed a household there that also held his mother Aurore, his unmarried uncle Valentin Serrette, and his widowed aunt Emma Serrette Labauve; his father does not appear with them. A son, George, was an infant in that household, and a second son, Jean Otto, was born on 20 February 1871 and baptised the following month at Brusly.

He died in 1893 and was buried at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Brusly, where his memorial is linked to that of his wife. No further record of him has been found between his younger son’s birth in 1871 and his death.
