♂Pierre Arrivee

Pierre Arrivee was an inhabitant of Ars, on the Île de Ré off La Rochelle, in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, known only as the father of the Pierre Arrivee who married at Ars in 1635. He was the eleventh great-grandfather of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through his son Pierre Arrivee (died 1673).

Two independent sources name him. A compilation of French emigrants to Canada, in its entry for his grandson Jacques, who left Ars for New France in 1665, calls Jacques’s father “Pierre Arrivé, son of Pierre”. The marriage index of the local genealogical society of Aunis, transcribed from the parish registers, records the wedding of Pierre Arrivee and Jeanne Rouzeau at Ars on 7 May 1635 and names the groom’s father as Pierre Arrivee. Neither source names his wife, and no date of birth, marriage or death has been found for him.

Notes

The surviving registers of Ars begin too late to help much. Baptisms survive only from October 1611, probably after his son was born, and the marriages recorded in the same volume from 1603 have not yet been searched for his own. The society’s index shows other men named Pierre Arrivee fathering children at Ars in the same years, with wives named Catherine Savarieau and Thomasse Roy, and nothing yet links either of those wives to this Pierre.
