♂Daniel LeBlanc

Daniel LeBlanc (born about 1626) was a farmer of Port-Royal in Acadia and the husband of Francoise Gaudet. He was the ninth great-grandfather of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through his son Rene LeBlanc (died before 1747).

Life

The census of Port-Royal in 1671 lists him as a farmer aged 45, with his wife Francoise Gaudet, aged 48, and seven children: a married daughter, Francoise, and six sons still at home, Jacques, Estienne, Rene, Andre, Antoine and Pierre, the youngest seven. The family held eighteen cattle, twenty-six sheep and ten arpents of cultivated land.

In 1686 he and Francoise, both given as sixty, were still at Port-Royal, and the household listed next to theirs was that of their son Rene, with his wife Anne Bourgeois. In 1693 Daniel, now 66, lived with Francoise, their son Pierre and his young son, a servant, Jean Laforet, fifteen, and a girl of twelve, Marguerite Laprincesse.

Acadian genealogists commonly count him as the ancestor of most Acadians named LeBlanc.

Notes

His place as Rene’s father rests on the censuses: Rene appears in his household in 1671, the only Rene LeBlanc of that age on the roll, and beside it with his own family in 1686. No act naming Rene’s parents survives. Online family trees date Daniel’s death to about 1696; that has not been checked against a record.
