Elisabeth Lefebvre (baptised 15 May 1651 – 10 September 1687) was the wife of the surgeon Félix Tune dit Dufresne of Batiscan, in New France, and after his death the wife of Jean Colet. She was the ninth great-grandmother of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through her daughter Madeleine Dufresne (1676).
Baptism and parents
She was baptised at Trois-Rivières (Immaculée-Conception) on 15 May 1651, the daughter of Pierre Lefebvre and Jeanne Nounau. Her godparents were recorded as Fafard Laframboise and Marie Leneuf, and the Jesuit René Ménard officiated. The act gives no birth date, so her birth is taken as the day of her baptism. Tanguay’s genealogical dictionary calls her Isabelle Lefebvre, born in 1651, the daughter of a Pierre Lefebvre; the baptism supplies the date, the place and both parents. The index of the registers shows no other Elisabeth Lefebvre baptised at Trois-Rivières who could have been a mother at Cap-de-la-Madeleine in 1675.
Marriage and children
Tanguay’s dictionary names her as the wife of Pierre-Félix Dufresne, a surgeon settled at Batiscan, on the St. Lawrence between Québec and Trois-Rivières. Her marriage to Félix is not in the index of the parish registers. The earliest act naming the couple is the baptism of their daughter Marguerite at Cap-de-la-Madeleine on 21 May 1675. If the marriage contract indexed for Félix in 1665 was theirs, she was about fourteen when it was signed, though that contract has not been read. Their other children married along the river and at Montréal between 1682 and 1713. Her husband was buried at Batiscan on 27 July 1683.
Second marriage and death
On 13 January 1687, at Batiscan, she married Jean Colet, a widower; the act describes her as the widow of Félix Tune. She died eight months later, on 10 September 1687, and was buried at Batiscan the next day; the burial register, as indexed, gives no age and does not name her husband, and Tanguay’s dictionary gives the same date. When her daughter Madeleine, herself already a widow, married Pierre Malet at Montréal on 9 January 1698, both of the bride’s parents were recorded as dead.
