♀Jeanne Nounau

Jeanne Nounau was the wife of Pierre Lefebvre, a colonist at Trois-Rivières, in New France, where their daughter Elisabeth was baptised on 15 May 1651. She was the tenth great-grandmother of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through her daughter Elisabeth Lefebvre (born 1651).

The register of the parish of the Immaculée-Conception at Trois-Rivières, as indexed, records the baptism of Elisabeth, daughter of Pierre Lefebvre and Jeanne Nounau, on 15 May 1651. Her godparents were Fafard Laframboise and Marie Leneuf, and the priest was the Jesuit René Ménard^W. Trois-Rivières was then a small fur-trading post on the St. Lawrence, founded in 1634, and in those years it lay open to Iroquois raids during the Beaver Wars^W.

Tanguay’s genealogical dictionary calls her Jeanne Aunois, born about 1621, and gives her husband as born about 1616. It credits the couple with eight children, with dated baptisms running from 1648 to 1661, among them Catherine, who married Antoine Trotier, and Jacques, who married Marie Baudry at Trois-Rivières in 1670. Elisabeth became the wife of the surgeon Félix Tune dit Dufresne of Batiscan. According to Tanguay, Jeanne was buried at Trois-Rivières on 11 February 1697, when she would have been about seventy-five.

The page of the 1651 register itself has not been read, and the index spells her surname Nounau where Tanguay has Aunois; the records do not settle which form she used. Her parents, her origin in France and the date and place of her marriage have not been found.
