♀Marie Anne Bouchard

Marie Anne Bouchard (born 25 December 1673) was born at Québec, the daughter of a surgeon, and married at Montréal in 1690. She was the eighth great-grandmother of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through her daughter Marie Roy (born about 1707).

Birth and parents

Marie Anne Bouchard was born and baptised on 25 December 1673 at Notre-Dame de Québec, in the Basse-Ville. Her parents were Etienne Bouchard and Marguerite Boissel. Her godfather was Jean Levasseur, recorded as secretary to the Comte de Frontenac^W. Frontenac was then governor of New France, so the godfather held a post in the governor’s household. Her other godparent was Marie Anne Fleureau, and the act also names Jean Delaunay, a surgeon.

Marriage and family

She married Jean Roy at Notre-Dame de Montréal on 6 February 1690. The register describes her as single and as the daughter of the late Bouchard, a surgeon, and Marguerite Boisel; her father’s forename was left out of the act and taken from the margin. Jean Roy, also single, was a son of Jean Roy and Françoise Bouet of the Saints-Anges parish at Lachine. Two of the three banns^W were dispensed. The couple’s children were baptised at Notre-Dame de Montréal from 1691 onward. One was baptised on 2 January 1707; the index does not name the child, but a family chart compiled in 1994 gives that day as the baptism of their daughter Marie. When Marie married François Mallet at Montréal on 8 November 1728, the register named her parents as Jean Roy and Marie Anne Bouchar.

The same 1994 chart gives Marie Anne Bouchard a burial at Québec on 23 April 1746. That date has not been checked against a register. Of the records above, only the index has been read, not the registers themselves.
