♀Marie Hebert

Marie Hebert was an Acadian, the mother of Agnes Daigle of St. James, Louisiana, known for certain only as “Marie Heber” in her daughter’s marriage entry of 1771. She was the sixth great-grandmother of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through her daughter Agnes Daigle (about 1752 – 1812).

Life

No record of her own has been found. Her daughter was living without either parent in 1769, when the Louisiana census listed her at seventeen as a “cousin” in another family’s household at St. James.

A compiled online family tree identifies her as Marie Josephte Hebert, born about 1730 at Beaubassin, married there to Paul Daigle in 1748, and dying in 1768 at Caraquet, on the Baie des Chaleurs in present-day New Brunswick, some eighteen hundred miles from the daughter the tree gives her. Separations of that kind were common after the Acadian expulsion of 1755, which scattered families across the British colonies, France and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The identification has not been proven from records.
