♂Paul Daigle

Paul Daigle was an Acadian, the father of Agnes Daigle of St. James, Louisiana, who is known for certain from a single line: his daughter’s marriage entry of 1771, which names her parents as “Paul & Marie Heber”. He was the sixth great-grandfather of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through his daughter Agnes Daigle (about 1752 – 1812).

Life

No record of his own has been found. When his daughter was counted in the Louisiana census of September 1769 she was seventeen and living as a “cousin” in the household of Joseph Sonnier at St. James, with neither parent beside her, which suggests that Paul was dead or had been separated from her in the Acadian exile.

A compiled online family tree identifies him as Paul Daigle of Beaubassin, born about 1723, who married Marie Josephte Hebert at Beaubassin on 19 June 1748, appears in a census of Île Saint-Jean (Prince Edward Island), and died on 19 February 1759. That man’s dates fit a daughter born about 1752, but the identification has not been proven from records: Paul Daigle and Marie Hebert were common names among the Acadians, and nothing yet found connects the Beaubassin family to the girl at St. James.
