♀Marie Marguerite Mius d'Entremont

Marie Marguerite Mius d’Entremont (born about 1650) was the wife of Pierre Melancon dit La Verdure of Les Mines and the mother of at least ten children; when the census-taker reached her household in 1686, she had given birth the day before, and the roll lists “a child one day old” after her eight older children. She was the eighth great-grandmother of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through her son Pierre Melancon (born about 1671).

Life

Her surname connects her to the Mius d’Entremont family, holders of a seigneury on the southern coast of Acadia; her parents have not been identified from records. In the census of 1686 she is “Marie MIUS DAUTREMON”, thirty-six, at Les Mines; in 1693 the roll calls her “Marguerite MIUS”, and gives her age as thirty-four, although seven years had passed. A compiled online tree reconciles the two as “Marie Marguerite Anne Mius dit d’Entremont”, born about 1650, and dates her marriage to 1665, when she would have been about fifteen, and her death to 1714.

Her children grew up in one of the largest households of Les Mines. Her son Pierre settled at Cobequid, and his daughter Francoise married into the Theriot family, whose descendants reached Louisiana after the Acadian exile.
