♀Médarde Vaquemoulin

Médarde Vaquemoulin was a Parisian, the wife of the master wood-turner Philippe Pichon and the mother of Marie Pichon, the mother of Charles Gautier, a settler at Québec in New France. She was the eleventh great-grandmother of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through her daughter Marie Pichon.

The Fichier Origine, a register-verified compilation of the origins of the settlers of New France, records that Philippe Pichon, a master wood-turner (maître tourneur en bois), and Médarde Vaquemoulin made their marriage contract at Paris on 28 December 1588, before the notaries Jean Charpentier and Nicolas Robinot. The same compilation names Philippe’s parents as Claude Pichon and Marie Perier, and Médarde’s as Jean Vacquemoulin and Jeanne Morel. According to it, their daughter Marie Pichon, born about 1600, married the master printer Philippe Gautier at Paris in 1618, and after his death came to New France in 1636 with her children.
