♂Rene LeBlanc

Rene LeBlanc was an Acadian of Grand-Pré, the son of Rene LeBlanc and Anne Bourgeois, who in 1709 married Elisabeth Melancon, a daughter of the Sieur de la Verdure and the widow of a royal notary. He was the seventh great-grandfather of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through his son Desire LeBlanc (born about 1717).

Life

He married Elisabeth Melancon at Grand-Pré on 30 July 1709. The act names his parents, Rene LeBlanc and Anne Bourgeois, “habitants de la Grand Prée”, and hers, Pierre Melanson, Sieur de la Verdure, and Marguerite Mius. Among the witnesses were several Melansons and LeBlancs. He signed his own name, while his bride made her mark.

The Grand-Pré registers record two of the couple’s daughters. Elisabeth was born on 6 December 1718 and baptised two days later, and Marie Joseph married Joseph Meunié, a man from Pentagouet, on 27 April 1734; that act calls her mother deceased. Their son Desire does not appear in the surviving baptisms, which begin in the middle of 1717, but in 1736 he stood godfather to a daughter of Marie Joseph, and that entry is the record that links him to this household.

Notes

The parentage of Desire rests on a modern dictionary of Acadian families, seen as quoted online, and on the godparent entry; no act naming Desire’s parents has been found. Several online trees give Desire’s parents as Jean LeBlanc and Jeanne Bourgeois instead. No record of this Rene’s birth or death has been identified.
