♀Jeanne Baudry

Jeanne Baudry (17 July 1659 – 21 November 1700), also called Lamarche after her father’s by-name, was a daughter of one of the early families of Trois-Rivières who married the surgeon Jacques Dugue in 1672 at the age of thirteen - as her own mother had been when her marriage contract was signed in 1647 - and had at least twelve children baptised over twenty-five years, the last of them a week before her own burial. She was the eighth great-grandmother of Nancy Jane Blanchard (1929–2006), through her daughter Jeanne Dugue (born about 1692).

Family

Jeanne was born and baptised at Trois-Rivières on 17 July 1659, the daughter of Urbain Baudry dit Lamarche and Madeleine Boucher. Her father, baptised at Luché in the province of Maine in 1615, was a taillandier, a maker of axes and other edge tools, who had come to New France in 1645; he died at Trois-Rivières in 1682. Her mother came from Mortagne in the Perche and was a sister of Pierre Boucher, later governor of Trois-Rivières. The census of about 1666 lists Jeanne, aged seven, in her parents’ household with five brothers and sisters. The register entered her baptism under the by-name alone - “Jeanne Lamarche”, daughter of “Lamarche” - which is the name her daughter’s marriage register also gave her in 1715.

She married Jacques Dugue, a surgeon from Semur-en-Auxois in Burgundy, at Trois-Rivières on 21 November 1672, before witnesses who included the governor of Trois-Rivières. A year later her husband stood godfather to her youngest brother Joseph. Their children, most of them baptised at Trois-Rivières between 1675 and 1700, included Marie Madeleine, Catherine, Jacques, Marguerite, François, Jean, a second Jacques, Marie, Jeanne, Maurice, Claude and Claire. Catherine died in 1698, unmarried.

Jeanne was buried at Trois-Rivières on 21 November 1700, one week after her son Claude was baptised. The register does not give a cause.
