♀Angélique Gallien

Angélique Gallien (baptised 2 August 1713) was born at Québec, in New France, and married Jean Perodeau, a Frenchman from Montchaude in the diocese of Saintes^W, at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on the island of Montréal in 1731. She was the sixth great-grandmother of Floyd Amatus Delahorne (1922–2014), through her daughter Marguerite Perrodeaux (1736–1800).

Early life

She was baptised at Québec (Notre-Dame) on 2 August 1713 as Marie Angélique Galien, daughter of Pierre Galien and Marie Mourier, written Morier in the register. Her parents had married at St-Jean on the Île d’Orléans on 25 June 1704. Her brother Pierre Noël had been baptised at Québec in 1710, and her younger sisters Marie Louise and Marie Josèphe and her brother Jean Baptiste were baptised at Lachine in 1717, 1719 and 1721.

Marriage

On 22 January 1731, at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Jean Perodeau married Angélique Gallien. The act names him Jean Baptiste Perodeau, single, of the “PAROISSE DE MONCHAUDE, DIOCESE DE SAINTES EN FRANCE”, son of the late Jean Baptiste Perodeau and of Antoinette Besis, and names her Marie Angélique Galien, single, daughter of Pierre Galien and Marie Mourier. The witnesses were Jacques Arrivé, “capitaine du Haut-de-l’Île”, Jacques Charbonnier and Philippe Lachenay, and the priest was Desenclaves.

Family

Their son Jean Baptiste was baptised at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in 1732, when the family lived at the Côte du Buisson; his godparents were Pierre Gallien and Marie Barbe Rapin, and he was buried the next year aged eleven months. Joseph followed in 1734, Marguerite Amable at Pointe-Claire on 8 April 1736, a second Jean Baptiste in 1740 and François Amable at Pierrefonds in 1742. A son Gabriel, five months old, was buried at Montréal in 1755, the register naming his parents as Jean Peraudeau Lafleur and Angélique Gallien; the family also used the name Lafleur, a dit name^W of the kind common in New France.

Their daughter Marguerite married Francois Mollere, written François Molère “dit Lasonde” in the act, at Les Cèdres on 9 February 1756, and her father was one of the witnesses. She later lived at Ascension in Spanish Louisiana, where she was buried in 1800. The acts of the family in Canada are known from the index of the Québec parish registers; the register pages themselves have not been read.
